Thiem Completes Unprecedented Comeback

Zverev Falls in Five-Set Thriller

Dominic Thiem has completed an unprecedented comeback at the US Open, rallying from two sets down and 3-5 in the fifth set to defeat Alexander Zverev 2-6, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 7-6 (8-6) and win the men's singles title.

It was the first Grand Slam title for Thiem, who has been ranked as high as No. 3 in the world. He is the first Austrian man to win a Grand Slam title since Thomas Muster won the French Open in 1995.

Zverev, who was playing in his first Grand Slam final, had a chance to serve for the championship at 5-3 in the fifth set. However, Thiem broke back and then won the tiebreaker to clinch the victory.

The match lasted for four hours and one minute. It was the longest men's singles final at the US Open since 2009.
